The Surat Municipal Corporation draft budget for the financial year 2026 27 was first presented at ₹10,593 crore in February 2026. Later, the Standing Committee revised and approved the total budget at ₹11,301 crore. This new budget focuses on infrastructure, public welfare, and education development in the city.

Key Budget Highlights

No Tax Increase

For the third year in a row, the corporation has not proposed any new tax or increase in property tax and user charges. This gives relief to citizens.

Strong Focus on Infrastructure

Around ₹5,073 crore is kept for capital development. This is ₹1,416 crore more than last year. Plans include construction of 9 new overbridges and around ₹332 crore for road development.

Welfare Schemes

New benefits announced in the budget include free BRTS travel for senior citizens and property tax relief for widows.

Major City Projects

Important projects receiving funds are the Tapi Riverfront development with about ₹150 crore, the Rundh Bhatha barrage project, and Dumas seaface development. These projects aim to improve tourism, traffic flow, and city infrastructure.

Education and School Development in Surat

The budget also gives special attention to municipal schools and higher education.

New Suman Schools

Five new Suman High Schools will be opened in Limbayat, Sarthana, Katargam, and Sachin Pali and nearby areas. This will help students in growing residential zones.

Redevelopment of Municipal Schools

Seven school buildings in Limbayat, Varachha A and B, and Rander are being redeveloped. They will be upgraded to Schools of Excellence standard.

New College Campus in Limbayat

A permanent campus for the Government Arts, Commerce and Science College is approved in Dindoli. The project will be built on a 31,415 square meter plot. This will improve higher education facilities in the area.

Overall Impact

The Surat budget for 2026 27 shows a clear plan with no extra tax burden on citizens, heavy spending on roads, bridges and riverfront, better schools and college facilities, and more welfare support for senior citizens and widows. These steps are expected to support city growth, education, and public comfort in the coming years.
